The PTE Academic Exam: What is it? The Pearson Test of English is an academic language test that students and aspiring professionals have to take before migrating to a predominantly English-speaking nation. What does the PTE test in candidates? The PTE tests candidates mainly in their abilities in terms of reading, listening, writing and speaking the English language. Every question that candidates face in the examination typically tests a combination of two skills, such as listening and reading or reading and speaking.

How Many Institutes Accept PTE Scores? On an international level, PTE scores are recognized and accepted by more than a thousand educational institutions. What Does the PTE Consist Of? PTE Eligibility Criteria Absolutely anybody can attempt the PTE, but according to the PTE Academic criteria for eligibility, candidates must be 16 years old. Parental consent forms are also required for appearing students who are below 18.

PTE for Students below 16 Years Old Unfortunately, students below 16 years old have to wait till they turn 16 to appear for the PTE. Until the Pearson LLC Group brings some changes to the rule, it’s unlikely that there will be any likelihood of students below 16 being allowed to appear for the examination. Minimum Educational Qualification for Appearing in the PTE No educational qualifications are required for the PTE. However, candidates aspiring to appear in the examination are advised to have basic communicative skills in English for passing the PTE General. However, PTE Academic candidates need thorough preparation and must be comfortable at reading, speaking, listening and writing English.

Examination Fees for PTE The basic PTE Academic examination fee is Rs 13,300. However, in case the candidate books a test 48 hours before the intended date of appearance for the test, then the candidate has to pay Rs, 13,965. The extra money is charged as a late booking fee.

PTE Cancellations and Rescheduling PTE allows candidates to cancel their booked examinations or reschedule them as per candidates’ preferences. Candidates may have to cancel their examinations in cases such as medical emergencies, personal issues or professional commitments. For such cases, the cancellation and rescheduling of the examination immensely help candidates. If candidates cancel at least two fortnights before the scheduled date of the examination, then they can also claim full refunds. Candidates who cancel a week before the examination date are eligible for a 50% refund. However, candidates cancelling within a span of 6,5,4,3,2 or 1 days are not eligible for any refunds. Candidates can also reschedule their exams, with those who reschedule a fortnight before the scheduled date of examination having to pay no extra rescheduling fee. However, students rescheduling a week before have to pay 50% of the examination fee, which would be charged by PTE as rescheduling fees.

Registration for PTE in 2020 If candidates are interested in appearing for the PTE in 2020, then candidates need a valid identity proof such as a passport. Candidates can register online for the examination and they would also have to show the furnished ID at the time of registration during the PTE.

EXAM PATTERN The PTE Academic exam pattern consists of three sections:

The basic exam pattern consists of the questions, which students are given the time to read based on the length of the text prompts. Students are given at least 15 seconds to answer every question, which they should use to relax and think about the right answer. Once the 15 seconds are up, candidates have to either write the answers, speak out the answers or choose from options if the questions are multiple-choice based. Reading Section The duration of the Reading section is from 32 -41 minutes and in this section, candidates are judged on their capabilities of understanding all written instructions, which would be all in English. This section is divided into 5 smaller segments:

Listening Section Candidates would get 45 – 57 minutes for this section, which involves testing candidates on their ability to understand spoken English.
